"Herding The Fish"

I have often observed these birds in inland lagoons. in Southern California. Feeding in groups they dip their beaks in water eating small fish and/or work cooperatively herding fish into shallow waters to continue the process. After feeding I have often observed them congregating in large groups along the shore line.
